DYSLEXIA AWARENESS

As well as owning a used bookstore and literary gift shop, I tutor dyslexic children.  I have done this since 2015.  I am currently certified in Orton Gillingham methodology and use Barton Reading & Spelling tools as well.

Dyslexia a general term for disorders that involve difficulty in learning to read or interpret words, letters, difficulty in spelling and math, and inability to properly interpret various communicative symbols, but that do not affect general intelligence.

Here are just a few of the standard warning signs that a person may have dyslexia:

1. Has trouble matching letters with sounds.
2. Has trouble spelling words.
3. Has difficulty learning new words and building vocabulary.
4. Has problems solving word problems in math.
5. Has to slowly re-read sentences.
6. Speaks more intelligently and fluently than he or she writes.
7. Skips over small words when reading out loud.

If your child or other person you know has, or is suspected of having, dyslexia, stop by my store. I would love to help you understand what's going on and how to deal with dyslexia.
